Kulyash Baiseitova (1912–1957) was a Kazakh opera singer (lyric soprano), People's Artist of the USSR and one of the brightest stars of Kazakh opera. She was the first Kazakh singer to be awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR, and became a symbol of the flowering of national opera art.She was born in 1912 in the Kokshetau district (now the territory of Kazakhstan). From childhood, she showed musical talent and from a young age participated in theatrical productions. She graduated from the studio at the Kazakh Musical Theater and already in 1934, at the age of 22, she became a soloist of the first Kazakh Opera and Ballet Theater (now the Abay Theater).She gained real fame for her role as Sarah in the opera “Birzhan and Sarah” by composer Mukan Tulebaev, where she not only demonstrated brilliant vocals, but also created a deeply dramatic image. This role became her hallmark. Among other significant works are the parts of Aizhan in “Aiman-Sholpan”, Azhar in “Abai”, Tatyana in “Eugene Onegin”. Her performance was distinguished not only by virtuoso technique, but also by deep emotional content.Kulyash Baiseitova was one of the first Kazakh singers who presented national music on the international stage. In 1936, she performed in Moscow at the Decade of Kazakh Art, where her talent was highly appreciated. In 1937, she received the title of People's Artist of the USSR, becoming the youngest artist in history to be awarded this title.Her life was cut short in 1957, but her contribution to the development of Kazakh opera and musical culture remains invaluable. Kurmangazy Sagyrbayuly (1818–1884) was a Kazakh composer, kuishi and dombra player, one of the greatest musicians of the Kazakh people. He was born in the Bukey Horde (now the territory of Western Kazakhstan) and showed a talent for playing the dombra from childhood. His teacher was the famous kuishi Uzak, but soon Kurmangazy surpassed many masters, creating unique melodies reflecting the life of the Kazakh people.His work became a symbol of the struggle for freedom and independence. In his kuyas, he conveyed the suffering of ordinary people, their desire for justice and the spirit of resistance. For his views and support for the poor, he was repeatedly persecuted by the authorities, arrested several times and imprisoned. Despite this, his music continued to sound, passing from generation to generation.Among his most famous works are “Saryarka”, “Adai”, “Kishkentai”, “Balbyraun”, “Turmeden kashkan”. Malbagar Mendikulov is an outstanding architect, the founder of Kazakh architectural science, who played a key role in shaping the appearance of Almaty and other cities of Kazakhstan. Born in 1909 in the Orenburg province. Graduated from the Central Asian Industrial Institute, after which he actively worked in Uzbekistan, designing important objects of Tashkent, including Navoi Avenue, theater named after A. Navoi and the Angren siphon of the Great Tashkent Canal. In 1941 he became the chief architect of Tashkent and chairman of the Union of Architects of Uzbekistan.During the Great Patriotic War, he volunteered for the front, where he served until the Victory, receiving the rank of major. After the war, he led Uzplanproekt and in 1947 was invited to Kazakhstan. In Almaty, he served as chief city ​​architect and head of the Department of Architecture and Construction of the Kazakh SSR, participated in the development of the city master plan, reconstruction of Lenin Avenue (now Dostyk), as well as the public center of the capital.Among his significant projects are the Wedding Palace in Almaty, the administrative building of the winery, the Karlygash cafe and Aina-Bulak, monuments to Zhambyl Zhabayev and Mukhtar Auezov, reconstruction of the Abai Museum in Semipalatinsk. He was one of the authors of the project of the Kazakh pavilion at the All-Russian Agricultural Exhibition in Moscow. In 1957 became a corresponding member of the Academy of Construction and Architecture of the USSR. Until the end of his life he was engaged in architectural research and teaching. Died in 1986 buried at the Kensai cemetery in Almaty.

Mayra Mukhamedkyzy

Mayra Mukhamedkyzy (also known as Mayra Kerey) is a Kazakh opera singer (soprano), the first Kazakh soloist of the Paris Grand Opera. She was born on September 5, 1969 in Kulja, China, into a musical family: her father was a famous composer and collector of Kazakh folk songs, her mother was a singer and People's Artist of China. In 1987, Mayra graduated from the music department of the Central University of Nationalities of China, and then from the Beijing Conservatory. In 1994, she moved to Kazakhstan, where she became a soloist of the Abay State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater in Almaty. In 1998, she took third place at the International Tchaikovsky Competition, becoming the first laureate from Kazakhstan. In 2002, Mayra signed a two-year contract with the Paris Grand Opera, where she debuted in Puccini's opera La Boheme as Musetta. She also performed at the Washington Opera at the invitation of Placido Domingo, performing a role in Tchaikovsky's opera The Maid of Orleans. Her repertoire includes parts in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, Meyerbeer's L'Africaine and others. In December 2015, Mayra was invited to Astana Opera as a leading soloist. She is a laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2008) and a knight of the Order of Otan (2020). In 2024, she was awarded the title of People's Artist of Kazakhstan. Mayra Mukhamedkyzy is married to Aksan Askhat-uly, a two-time Asian motocross champion and ten-time Chinese motorcycle racing champion. The couple has a daughter, Aida, born on February 2, 2012. Her work is highly appreciated by critics and the public for her bright, crystal clear voice and artistry. Mayra continues to actively perform on the international opera stage, representing Kazakh art.In 2024, Mayra Mukhamedkyzy took part in the referendum in Kazakhstan, casting her vote at a polling station located in the opera and ballet theater in Shymkent. Her contribution to the development of opera art and the popularization of Kazakh culture on the international stage is significant and deserves recognition.

Mirzhakip Dulatov is a Kazakh poet, writer, journalist, playwright, one of leaders of the "Alash- Horda" movement.Born 25 November 1885  in the Turgai region. I lost my parents early his mother died when he was 2 years old, his father died when he was 12. He graduated from elementary school, then Russian-Kazakh school (1902), after which he became a rural teacher. His mentor was Akhmet Baitursynov, with whom Mirzhakip collaborated in literature and politics. In 1904 I met Alikhan Bukeikhanov in Karkaraly.In 1907 Dulatov went to St. Petersburg for the All-Russian Congress of Cadets as a delegate from the Kazakh Party of Constitutional Democrats. He created magazine "Serke", where it published the poem "Zhastarga"("Youth"). Written article “Bizdin maksatymyz” (“Our Goal”) for the second issue, but the publication was closed.In 1910 Mirzhakip Dulatov wrote the novel “Bakytsyz Zhamal” (“Unhappy Jamal”), which is considered the first Kazakh novel. In it he revealed the problems of the oppressed position of women in Kazakh society.In parallel, he became one of the leaders of Kazakh reformism. His activities aroused suspicion among the authorities, and in 1911 in Semipalatinsk he was arrested for poem “Zhumbak”, where he allegorically ridiculed Emperor Nicholas II. He was sentenced to 2 years in prison, but later the punishment was replaced with a fine of 2000 rubles.After his release, Dulatov actively published in the magazine "Aykap" and the newspaper "Kazakh", which he founded together with Akhmet Baitursynov. In his articles he criticized the social and political situation of the Kazakhs. In 1913 he published poem “Azamat” (“Citizen”)In 1916 during the uprising against the mobilization of the Kazakhs on rear work, Dulatov, together with Baitursynov and Bukeikhanov, spoke out for the implementation of the royal decree. This caused disagreements among the people.In 1917, he became the organizer of the First All-Kazakh Congress in Orenburg, where the Alash party was created, and later became a member of the Alash Orda government.After the defeat of the Alash autonomy in 1920, he left politics and took up publishing and teaching activities. In 1928, he sharply opposed the abolition of the Arabic alphabet, considering it a threat Kazakh language and culture.

In his works, Makataev sang love, nature, native land, reflected on the meaning of life and the inevitability of time. Many of his poems became songs that live among the people.Makataev was also involved in translations: Thanks to him, Kazakh readers became acquainted with the works of Walt Whitman, William Shakespeare and Dante. His translation of The Divine Comedy is recognized as one of the best interpretations of this great work.Despite the fact that his life was short, Makataev’s work left an indelible mark on Kazakh literature. His poems continue to inspire, finding a response in the hearts of people of all generations.

Mukhtar Omarkhanovich Auezov is an outstanding Kazakh writer, playwright and scientist. Laureate Lenin (1959) and Stalin Prize (1949), Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR (1946). His epic novel “The Way of Abai” became a classic of world literature.Born 28 September 1897 in the Shyngystau tract, Semipalatinsk region. Lost early parents and was raised by his uncle. In 1919 graduated from the Semipalatinsk Teachers Seminary.In 1917 he staged his first play “Enlik-Kebek” in the yurt of Abai’s wife, Aigerim. Later he created his main work – the novel “Abai’s Path”, which reveals the life of Kazakh society for the second time half of the 19th century and the fate of Abai Kunanbayev.The novel was translated into Russian by a whole group of translators, but the key work was done by Anna Nikolskaya. Her translation subsequently formed the basis for translations into 20 languages.Mukhtar Auezov died 27 June 1961 in Moscow. His work continues to inspire readers around the world.

Nurgisa Tlendiev – is not just a name in the history of Kazakh music, it is an era sounding in dombra, orchestra and the hearts of the people. Composer, conductor, dombra player, People's Hero of Kazakhstan and People's Artist of the USSR – he was a man who knew how to speak to the Universe through music.Born in 1925 in the village of Shilikemer and from childhood his fate was sealed – his father taught him to play the dombra, and the great Akhmet Zhubanov took him under his wing. Already at the age of 12, Tlendiev was an accompanist, and at 14, a conductor of an orchestra of folk instruments.The war did not spare him either - he went to the front as a volunteer. But, having gone through fire and trials, he returned to devote himself to music again. He studied at the Kazakh Conservatory, then in Moscow, trained at the Bolshoi Theater.His work spans more than 500 works – from cues to operas, from cantatas to symphonies. His music is heard in films that every Kazakh knows: “Kyz Zhibek”, “My name is Kozha”, “Batyr Bayan”.In 1981 he founded the legendary orchestra "Otrar Sazy", returning ancient Kazakh instruments to the world, reviving the sounds of the steppe and nomads ancestors. He brought Kazakh music to a new level, creating a bridge between the past and the future.On October 15, 1998, he passed away, but his dombra continues to sound in orchestras, in the voices of folk singers, in the memory of everyone who has ever heard his works.

His repertoire includes about 300 songs, including Sagynysh, Auylym, Ake Armany, Anashym, Karagym-ay, Aidai and many others. He is the first performer of more than 70 compositions which are included in the repertoire of young singers.Awarded for his contribution to the culture of Kazakhstan titles “Honored Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan” and “Honored Worker of Kazakhstan.”

Nursulu Elubaevna Tapalova (1923–1998) - Kazakh and Soviet artist ballet, film actress, Honored Artist of the Kazakh SSR (1954). Since childhood, she showed interest in performing arts, performed in an amateur theater group. At the age of 13 she entered the dance school at the Kazakh Academic Opera Theater and ballet.In 1936-1939 she studied at the ballet school at the theater under the direction of K. Dzhandarbekova. Since 1936 has performed as a ballet soloist of the Kazakh Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, and since 1953 — with as part of "Kazakhconcert".She shone in various pop concerts and the miniature genre.On November 6, 1946, she performed “Kazakh Dance” by L. Later she became the conductor of the Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after Abai. In 1995 she was awarded for her contribution to the development of art title “Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan.”For many years she was engaged in teaching activities, was a member of the jury of international competitions and the chairmanstate exams at the Kurmangazy Conservatory. Among her students  are Rashid Skuratov, Honored Artist of Tatarstan.Raisa Sadykova was distinguished by rare musicality, artistry and high professional technique. She left life 2 June 2020 , buried at the Kensai cemetery in Almaty.
