Sara Kusherbaeva

Sara Idrisovna Kusherbaeva – outstanding Kazakhstani ballerina, choreographer, teacher, professor, People's Artist of the Kazakh SSR (1966).

Born February 6 1933 in Alma-Ata. Studied at the Alma-Ata School of Choreography with A. V. Seleznev, then at the Leningrad Academic Choreographic School with V. Kostrovitskaya, N. Kamkova and other masters.

In 1954 she became a soloist ballet of the Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after Abay. She made her debut in the role of Parasha in “The Bronze Horseman” (1955). She performed leading roles in the ballets “Sleeping Beauty”, “Swan Lake”, “Giselle”, “Don Quixote”, “La Bayadère”, "Spartak" and many others. Toured in Germany, Hungary, Mongolia and other countries.

From 1973 – repetiteur-choreographer of the theater, from 1975 to 1986 year – director of the Alma-Ata choreographic school, educated many

talented artists.
In recent years, she has been engaged in literary activities,  published memoirs.

She died on January 24, 1999 in Alma-Ata. Her contribution to the development of Kazakhstan ballet remains invaluable.
