Zhidebay-Borili. In the footsteps of Abai

The personality of Abai occupies a special place in the history of the Kazakh people. A great thinker, composer, poet and writer, the founder of Kazakh classical literature. Abai Kunanbayuly is the Alpha and Omega of the Kazakh national culture. In 1940, on the eve of the 95th anniversary of the birth of an outstanding figure, the State Historical, Cultural and Literary Memorial Museum-Reserve of Abai "Zhidebai-Borili" was organized in his homeland in the Abai region. In the history of Kazakhstan, this is the first literary and memorial museum. Currently, it unites 8 museums dedicated to famous personalities of the Kazakh people in the city of Semey, Abai and Urzhar districts of the Abai region and is a recognized spiritual center, the pride of the people. The complex includes the Abay House Museum in Zhidebay, the Mukhtar Auezov House Museum in Borili, the Shakarim Hunting Lodge exposition, the Abay-Shakarim mausoleum complex, a 6,400-hectare conservation area, the Kokbay Zhanatayev Museum in the Takyr area, the Shakir Abenov House Museum in the village of Kundyzdy, all located in the Abay district, and the Aset Naimanbayev Museum in the village of Makanchi in the Urjar district. The city complex includes the main museum, the Akhmet Riza Mosque-Madrasah, and an administrative building. The museum's collections contain more than 21,000 exhibits, and the museum's scientific library contains more than 16,000 publications.
