Zhumeken Sabyrovich Nazhimedenov (1935–1983) - Kazakh poet, writer and translator, author of words the current anthem of Kazakhstan.

Born in the village of Koshalak (now Kurmangazy district, Atyrau region). He was brought up by his grandfather, who instilled in him a love of words, history and traditions. Studied at the Kazakh State Conservatory (1956–1959), then worked as editor of the publishing house “Zhazushy”, "Mektep", newspapers "Leninshil Zhas", was a literary consultant of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan.

His literary journey began with collection “Balausa” (1961), after which came “No, we must not forget” and eight more poetry collections. In addition to poetry, Zhumeken Nazhimedenov wrote prose — he owns three famous novels: “Ak Shagyl” (1973), “Kishkentai” (1975) and “Dank pen dakpyrt” (1978). After his death there were

ten more collections have been published, including unpublished poems, stories, articles, translations and nine songs.

Nazhimedenov's works have been translated into many languages, and he himself translated poems by A. Voznesensky, E. Yevtushenko, N. Hikmet and other authors into Kazakh.

In 1956 at the age of 21 years, he wrote the lyrics to the song “Menің Kazakhstan" to the music of Shamshi Kaldayakov. It quickly became popular, and in 2006 it was officially approved as the National Anthem of Kazakhstan.
