Gabiden Mustafin is an outstanding Kazakh Soviet writer, public figure, corresponding member of the Kazakh Academy of Sciences SSR, one of the significant masters of Kazakh prose. Born in 1902 on the banks of the Nura, in the area of Sartobe (now Bukhar-Zhyrau district of the Karaganda region). Educated by an aul mullah and at the Russian-Kazakh school of Spassky plant.
He began his career in the mines of Karaganda, then worked in the Supreme Court of the Kazakh Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, which gave him a deep understanding of social conflicts reflected in his works. Mustafin’s literary path began with short stories, and the first collection “Er Shoyyn” was published in 1929. In 1940 he published his first novel, Life or death", dedicated to the formation of the Karaganda coal
pool.
From 1953 to 1956 he headed the Writers' Union of Kazakhstan, a from 1962 to 1964 he was his first secretary. In 1956 he became a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan. In 1983, a five-volume collection of his works was published.
Mustafin was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and played an important role in the development of Kazakh literature. Died in 1985 in Alma-Ata, buried in Kensai cemetery.
