Eskendir Khasangaliev is a name that thousands of Kazakhstanis pronounce with love. His songs have become part of the cultural code country, filling hearts with warmth, lyricism and deep love for the homeland.
Born in 1940 in a small village Batpakkul, Western Kazakhstan region, he absorbed the wealth of folk music from childhood. Possessing a mesmerizing lyrical baritone, Eskendir became a soloist of Kazakh radio and television, but most importantly, he created music that resonated in every heart.
In 1961 he wrote his first song – “Anaga salem” (“Hello to Mother”), and since then his journey as composer. In his work there are more than 200 songs, romances and choral works among which “Asyl Arman”, “Sagyndym Seni”, “Yesine al” and, of course, “Atameken” - a song that has become a real anthem of love for the native land.
One of the most heartfelt stories is connected with song “Ademi-au”. Eskendir dedicated it to a girl whom he saw at a concert in Karaganda. Four years passed before he met her again in Almaty. Her name was Dariko, and she became his wife, muse, inspiration.
