Atyrau region is one of the 17 regions of Kazakhstan and it is located in the West part of the country. The region borders with the Astrakhan region of Russia in the West, the West Kazakhstan region in the North and Northeast, Aktobe region in the East, and the Mangystau region in the South. It has an access to the Caspian Sea. A climate is sharply continental and drouthy there. The summers are hot, and winters are cold. The region is rich in natural resources, such as oil and gas. The major cities of the Atyrau region are Atyrau and Kulsary. Both cities are important industrial centers.
