Almaty region is one of the largest regions in terms of population in Kazakhstan.
It borders with Zhambyl region in the West, Karaganday region in the Northwest, and Zhetysu region in the Northeast. The region borders with China in the East and Kyrgyzstan in the South.
A region is home to the Taukum, Belsekseul and Moyinkum sand massifs, as well as the popular Charyn Canyon.
The major cities of the region are Almaty, Kaskelen, Talgar, Konayev and Esik.
