Nicholas Roerich was at the origin of many cultural initiatives that are still relevant today. Among them is the international movement initiated by him on the role of culture in the life of peoples, the protection of cultural sites as an important and necessary link of time. The symbol of this movement was the Banner of Peace, an ancient sign whose history goes back to ancient times. It is found on mysterious rock paintings of Asia, in temple paintings, paintings by old masters, coats of arms and emblems. Everywhere it was given a special protective significance. The Roerich Pact formed the basis of the modern international system of cultural protection. On April 15, the day of the signing of the Pact in 1935 by the countries of the Pan-American Union, the International Day of Culture is celebrated in the world.
