Kazakh-Turkish film “Sophiya” shown in Cannes
The world premiere of the Kazakh-Turkish film “Sophiya”, directed by Tulepbergen Baisakalov and co-directed by Daria Dunich, took place at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on the French Riviera.

The plot of the film revolves around the story of a Ukrainian girl Sophiya, who enters into a love relationship with a rich Turkish man Hussein, being unaware of his married status. When Hussein’s wife finds out about her husband’s infidelity, Sophiya’s fate changes, and an immigrant from Kazakhstan – Azamat appears in her path. Two different people from the different generations meet at the foreign land and this land unites them, and they understand that they are meant for each other.

The moving picture “Sophiya” is an attempt to look into depths of the soul, to express the emotions and show the relationships that unite all of us, regardless of time, age, social status and place.

The main roles were played by Turkish actress Yana Rai and the director-producer Tulepbergen Baisakalov himself. It is planned that the film will be widely released in Kazakhstan in autumn.

The main shootings took place at the Black Sea coast in Istanbul, and a small part of the film was shot in the Kazakh village.

“It gave a special atmosphere for our film. Working in another country was complicated by the need to coordinate the actions of two teams, which are Turkish and Kazakh. This is the language barrier and different approach to work. The shootings took a month, and the post-production process took 3 months”, — said the co-director, Daria Dunich.

A film aroused the interest of the audience and filmmaker. The producer of the moving picture has already received the offers from the productions to work together in other countries.
