The "International Museum Day" is celebrated annually around the world on May 18. By tradition, on this day, the State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan named after Abylkhana Kasteeva is preparing a rich program for the audience with exhibitions, concerts, excursions, master classes and interactive events. The purpose of the "Night at the Museum" project is to promote cultural heritage in the museum space and attract a wide audience.
The organizers of the festive artistic and cultural event "Night at the Museum - 2024" set the main task to popularize the arts, get acquainted with the museum collection and attract residents of the city to museum programs. A significant event in 2024 was the publication of the catalog "Art of Japan. XVII-XXI centuries." and the opening of an exhibition of Japanese art from the funds of the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan named after A. Kasteev, in this regard, this year the project is dedicated to the richest culture of Japan, its refined art and philosophy.
"We are convinced that the publication of the Japanese art catalog from the collection of the leading art museum of Kazakhstan will become an additional bridge in strengthening and activating international cultural interaction between our countries," said museum director Gulaim Musagulovna Zhumabekova. The collection includes about 250 works, many of which have been transferred to the museum since 1936 from the State Museum of Oriental Arts, the Central State Museum of Kazakhstan, the Tselinograd Regional Museum of Local Lore, etc.
An interesting program awaits visitors on this day: a fair of masters and an open-air on the territory of the museum, a screening of the film "Kusama: endless Worlds" (directed by Heather Lenz) in the conference hall, interactive Japanese-style games, guided tours of the permanent sections of the exposition, thematic master classes.
An important event within the framework of the International Museum Day will be the opening of the exhibition "The Story of the Bride" (2008) from the manga series by the famous artist Kaoru Mori. It invites viewers to plunge into the rich history of Central Asia of the XIX century. In 2022, this manga was exhibited at the International Manga Museum in Kyoto as part of the "anniversary project dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the five Central Asian countries."
The exhibition will feature about 250 exhibits – works of graphics, metal, wood, ceramics, fabric, bone and glass. Also, within the framework of the exhibition, you can get acquainted with Japanese artifacts from the personal collection of Dosym Satpayev.
Interactive games and excursions in Kazakh, Russian and English languages are organized for those who wish to visit the exhibition. Master classes in origami, calligraphy and spoken Japanese were organized with the assistance of the event's partners - the Department of the Far East of Al–Farabi Kazakh National University and the Ichikawa Japanese House.
The concert programs of "Nights at the Museum" also include traditional and classical music, choreographic and stage shows. Among the participants: the Ai-kui Art and educational Studio, the Yerkele Public Foundation for People with Disabilities, the Assyl Mura family ensemble, a group of artists from the Temirbek Zhurgenov Kazakh National Academy of Arts, students of the acting faculty (theatrical etude), young musicians from the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory, the Cloud group with a musical instrument "Hanga", chamber orchestra "Giovani Talenti", defile "Field tracks", Studio "Kiizo", Kazakhstan Center of Indian Classical Dance and Yoga, pantomime theater of Sergey Chervyakov, singer Venera Urazbekova with the SUBANDALA program, pianist Lyazzat Almukhambetova, Art of Her presents Maya Kolosova's creative work in Japanese style.
