Charyn Canyon is a magnificent natural phenomenon located in Kazakhstan, namely 195 km east of the city of Almaty. It is one of the most famous canyons in Central Asia and impresses with its beauty and scale.

The Ministry of Culture and Information of the country has added the Charyn Canyon to the list of the five most popular attractions of our country. It is noted that despite the remoteness of the canyon, 45 thousand people visited it in 2022. 

The canyon was formed for millions of years under the influence of the Charyn River, which cut its way through the Kazakh Altai.

The length of the Charyn Canyon is about 154 kilometers, and its depth in some places reaches more than 300 meters. The canyon is part of the Charyn National Park, founded on February 23, 2004.

Impressive red cliffs and narrow gorges create a unique landscape that attracts tourists from all over the world. The most prominent formations include the "Valley of Castles" and the "Red Canyon".

The "Valley of Castles" is a section of the canyon where high cliffs form crenellated towers and pillars resembling castles. These natural formations amaze with their architectural beauty, artfully carved by winds and water.

The "Red Canyon" got its name due to the red shades of the rocks, creating an impressive contrast with the bright blue sky. The various shades and shapes of the rocks create fantastic landscapes, especially at sunset, when the sun turns the rocks into warm orange and red shades.

In addition to its beauty, the Charyn Canyon provides opportunities for outdoor activities and adventures. Tourists can go hiking, mountaineering and even swimming in the Charyn River. Hiking and night excursions are also organized here, allowing guests to enjoy the beauty of the canyon at different times of the day.
