Borovoye - the pearl of Kazakhstan

Borovoye is one of the pearls of nature in Kazakhstan, located in the northern part of the country, 70 kilometers west of the city of Kokshetau and 250 kilometers from the capital. This unique corner of nature attracts tourists with its colorful landscapes, a variety of flora and fauna, as well as a variety of entertainment.

According to the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Borovoye ranks second on the list of the five most visited attractions in the country. In 2022, more than 550,000 travelers visited Burabai.

Natural features

1. Borovoye Lake. One of the symbols of this district is Lake Borovoye. It is amazingly beautiful and clear, surrounded by pine forests and high hills. The water in the lake has unique shades, changing color from turquoise to sapphire depending on the season and daylight.

2. White Rocks: In the vicinity of Borovoye you will find the White Rocks, which create amazing arch formations. The absolute height of these rocks is about 947 meters. These limestone formations are framed by forests, which gives them a special charm and makes them a great place for hiking and photo shoots.

3. Amazing fauna. The area of Borovoye is about 130 thousand hectares, 79 thousand hectares of which are covered with forest. The most common species is pine. In 2016, a 247-year-old pine tree was discovered here.


Tourist opportunities in Borovoye

1. Excursions and hiking. Borovoye offers extensive opportunities for excursions and hiking. Routes are varied, from walks along the lake shore to trekking in the forests and hills. Popular routes include visits to the White Rocks, Nurgis Peak, walks along the lake shore and the Abylai Khan Glade. Abylai Khan Glade was founded in 1991 in honor of the 280th anniversary of Abylai Khan. On the glade there is an architectural and memorial monument, a 35/meter octagonal obelisk and a stone 5-6 meters high, which according to legends was the throne of the khan himself. The legend of the region says that if you go around the stone clockwise 7 times and make a wish, it will definitely come true.


2. Bike tours. For cycling enthusiasts, Borovoye has developed routes of varying difficulty. Cyclists can explore the surroundings of the lake and enjoy the fresh air.  

3. Alpine skiing and snowmobiles in winterIn winter Borovoye turns into a great place for skiing vacation. Alpine skiing tracks and snowmobile routes attract winter sports enthusiasts, creating ideal conditions for active recreation. Such bases as the Republican ski base with ski jumps and the CSKA ski base are located on the territory of Burabai.


Water sports

Lake Borovoye provides opportunities for various types of water activities. Tourists can rent boats, kayaks and catamarans or simply enjoy swimming in the clear water. On the northern part of this lake, between the Kokshe and Temirtau mountains, there is a stone "island" called Zhumbaktas. This rock is one of the most famous sights in Burabai. Tourists can get a closer look at it by taking a guided boat ride.

Infrastructure and entertainment

1. Along the shore of Lake Borovoye there are various resort complexes and hotels offering comfortable accommodation and a variety of services. This makes Borovoye an attractive place for family vacations and romantic trips.


2. Restaurants and cafes. There are restaurants in the area offering a rich variety of Kazakh and world cuisine. Tourists can enjoy local delicacies and beautiful views surrounded by nature.
