The 5 most visited attractions in Kazakhstan

In this article, we will look at places and objects that attract tourists with historical monuments, natural landscapes, architectural structures, as well as national parks, museums. 


The sights of Kazakhstan represent a rich heritage and offer tourists a variety of opportunities for recreation, travel and exploring the culture and nature of our country.

1. Ile-Alatau National Park

Ile-Alatau National Park is a unique natural complex in the Trans-Ili Alatau, in the north-west of the Tien Shan, which is under state protection. Its distinctive features are the beauty and complexity of the landscape, as well as the amazing biological diversity. The history of the park begins back in 1931. The area of the national park is 200,160 hectares, its height is 4,979 meters above sea level. In the Ile-Alatau Park you can find 37 species of plants and 30 species of animals that are listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Kazakhstan.  According to the Tourism Committee of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ile-Alatau National Park became the most popular place among tourists, in 2022 it was visited by 628 thousand tourists.

2. Burabai

Burabai is one of the pearls of nature in Kazakhstan, located in the northern part of the country, 70 kilometers west of the city of Kokshetau. This unique corner of nature attracts tourists with its colorful landscapes, a variety of flora and fauna, as well as a variety of entertainment.  


According to the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Burabai is located in the second place of the list of the five most visited attractions in the country. In 2022, more than 550.000 travelers visited Burabai. 


Burabai in Kazakhstan is not just a tourist attraction, but also a place where nature embodies amazing beauty. Whether in summer or winter, this place provides incredible opportunities for active and family holidays. The combination of beautiful natural landscapes, hiking trails and a variety of entertainment makes Burabai one of the most visited and memorable tourist destinations in Kazakhstan.

3. Kolsai Lakes

This area includes three high-altitude lakes in the northern Tien Shan. The Kolsai Lakes system is located in the national park of the same name in the Kegen district. The lakes are 330 kilometers from the city of Almaty, 5-4 hours away by car. The lakes are accessible all year round. The largest of the three is considered to be the middle lake Mynzhylgy, and the third is located close to the border of Kyrgyzstan. 


Kolsai lakes are often called the "Pearls of the Northern Tien Shan". They are surrounded by coniferous forests and are a popular place for recreation among residents and visitors of Almaty. The number of tourists visiting this place exceeds 190,000 people per year.

4. Bayanaul

Bayanaul is four lakes surrounded by rocky mountains and pine forests, which are located in the Pavlodar region. The Bayanauli National Park is ideal for those who are just getting to know the nature and history of Kazakhstan. On the shore of Lake Sabyndykol there is the village of Bayanaul and several holiday homes, and the coast of Lake Zhasybai is the main tourist area. Houses, recreation areas, cafes and shops are scattered along the coast. In 2022, 85 thousand tourists visited the territory of the national park.

5. Charyn Canyon

Charyn Canyon is a magnificent natural phenomenon located in Kazakhstan, 195 km east of the city of Almaty. It is one of the most famous canyons in Central Asia and impresses with its beauty and scale. The Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan has added the Charyn Canyon to the list of the five most popular attractions of our country. ec. 


The canyon was formed for millions of years under the influence of the Charyn River, which cut its way through the Kazakh Altai.


The length of the Charyn Canyon is about 154 kilometers, and its depth in some places reaches more than 300 meters. The canyon is part of the Charyn National Park, founded on February 23, 2004.


Citizens of Turkey, the USA, Great Britain and Germany most often visit the magnificent canyon. In 2022, about 45 thousand people celebrated Charyn in their travels.
