Theatre was founded in 2012 at the initiative of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The first performance of the Theatre took place in July 2013 and all the tickets were sold out: the audience accepted the theatre and fell in love. At present, the talented team has thousands of fans not only in Kazakhstan, but also abroad.
The theater has set itself the goal of developing a modern choreographic art, while preserving a national identity. One of the priorities of Astana Ballet is the creation of the new national productions. The repertoire of the theater includes the performances, reflecting various directions of the world ballet art from classical to modern.
Characteristics of the theater
The total area of the theatre is 15.467 m². The auditorium has 783 seats (the stalls for 609 seats, 2nd balcony tier for 104 seats, 3rd balcony tier for 70 seats). The stage area, which meets all modern standards of theatre space organization is 536 m². The stage complex together with the proscenium, backstage and side stages is more than 1000 m². The orchestra pit is designed for 50-60 musicians.
The latest technologies of mobile and lifting-lowering mechanics are used for scene transformation. The lighting complex includes traditional theatrical devices and systems, as well as the latest innovative developments in this field. About 800 light devices allow providing high quality of art lighting.
The theatre has the two rehearsal rooms, their area corresponds to the stage area, which is very convenient in the process of creating new performances.
The possibilities of the scene of the "Astana Ballet" Theatre open up space for embodiment of the most daring and original ideas for the directors and scenographers.

"GAIA", "A Fuego Lento", "Love Fear Loss", "Touch of Illusion" (choreography by Ricardo Amarante,), "Walpurgis Night", "The Snow Queen", "Kozy Korpesh – Bayan Sulu" (choreography by Georgy Kovtun,), "Salomé", "Carmen", "Ot kyz" (choreography by Mukaram Avakhri,) and others are among them.
The national ballets have a special significance for the Astana Ballet repertoire. Their originality lies in the organic fusion of the elements of classical dance with folk art. The subject matter of these works is interesting to the modern viewers, both domestic and foreign; it contains a deep understanding of folk traditions and glorification of the beauty of the people.
A kind of business card of Astana Ballet is the concert program "Heritage of the Great Steppe". The choreographic works for it have been created by both domestic and foreign choreographers. M. Avakhri, A.Tati, G. Kovtun and others are among them. The directors create the new dance performances and story productions based on them. The concert program "Heritage of the Great Steppe" or individual numbers from it are constantly included in foreign tours. The names of the numbers testify to the rich material of the national choreographic art: "Nur shashu", "Balbyrauyn" (Free Steppe), "Arular" (Beauties), "Kyz kaiyn" (Birch trees), "Asatayak", "Kerbez sulu", "Zheltorangy", "Siy-siyapat", "Seriler saltanaty", "Asem konyr" (Dedication to the women of the Great Steppe), "Uly Dala" (Great Steppe), "Ata tolgauy" (Ancient traditions) and many others.
The classical choreographic language and language of modern ballets, obeying the system of dance culture, acquires national certainty and enriches the culture of the country. Despite its youth, the theater has harmoniously integrated into the cultural life of the country since its establishment and vividly reflects the art of the new capital of Kazakhstan.
