Karaganda Regional Kazakh Drama Theater named after Saken Seifullin is one of the oldest Kazakh drama theaters, located in the city of Karaganda at Bukhar Zhyrau Avenue, 25/1. The theater named afterSeifullina has a 90-year history. From the first performances, the theater has earned the love of the audience and the attention of the theatrical community.
The history of the theater
The theater was founded in 1932 on the basis of an amateur circle as a theater for working youth (TRAM, 1932-1934). Among the founders of TRAM was S.Telgaraev (1910-1975), one of the first actors of the Kazakh theater, People's Artist of the Kazakh SSR.
In the early years of its existence, the theater was located in the area of the Parkhomenko factory (now the area is called the "Old Town").
In 1964, the creative successes of the theater troupe were noted and it was named after the writer S. Seifullin, the founder of modern Kazakh literature.
In 1986, the creative group of the regional Kazakh Drama Theater named after S. Seifulin was the first among the regional theaters to be awarded the State Prize of the Kazakh SSR for the production of "Oliar" by writer A. Zhunusov.
The theater named after Seifullina today
In December 2008, the long-awaited dream of the theater and many viewers of Karaganda came true, the Karaganda Regional Kazakh Drama Theater finally received its own separate modern building. It was designed by architect Kanat Musaev.
The theater has 2 halls, a large one for 600 spectators, a small hall for 160 spectators.
The main stage of the theater was mounted by specialists from Russia, the equipment was delivered from St. Petersburg.
The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan was present at the grand opening of the new theater building.
To date, the theater's repertoire includes about 80 productions, and the artists play 246 performances annually.
The repertoire of the theater consists of the works of famous writers of Kazakhstan: Mukhtar Auyezov, Kasym Amanzholov, Takhaui Akhtanov, Sultanali Balgabayev, Kalizhan Bekkhozhin, Saken Zhunisov, Dulat Isabekov, Beimbet Mailin, Sabit Mukanov, Gabit Musrepov, Saken Seifullin, Akim Tarazi, as well as authors of famous dramatic works of the world-Chingiz Aitmatov, Nikolai Gogol, Carlo Galdoni, Alexander Griboyedov, Euripides, Otar Ioseliani, Lope de Vega, Alexander Ostrovsky, Nazim Hikmet, William Shakespeare, Friedrich Schiller and others.
6 new productions are premiered annually.
Honored Artists of Kazakhstan and honored figures of the country, actors of the "highest category" work in the theater.
