The Master who created TAYKAZAN rests in the Sozak district of Turkestan region
virtual tour

The Sozak district, Turkestan region, rich in more than 500 historical, sacred, genealogical sites and mausoleums, is of great importance about the life of Khoja Akhmet Yassawi and is associated with the main exhibit of the mausoleum - Taykazan. But who is the author and creator of this masterpiece in the art of iron smelting?

It was cast by the Persian master carpenter Abdulaziz ibn Sharafuddin Tabrizi in 1399. This is indicated by the inscription on the cauldron. The weight of the Taykazan is about 2 tons, diameter 2.4 m, height 1.6 m, capacity 3 thousand liters.

Taykazan is the main exhibit of the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi. According to scientists, this gift was made by the commander Emir Timur in the XIV century. It was cast from alloys of seven precious metals. Taykazan weighs two tons, which gives it special importance in the history of metallurgy in the territory of modern Kazakhstan. Despite the fact that Taykazan is associated with cooking, it was actually intended for storing water, becoming an object of admiration for many generations.

Legend says that after the creation of Taykazan, Khoja Ahmet Yassawi, appearing to the master in a dream, blessed him for the Hajj to Mecca. He also predicted that the master would be buried next to Saint Karabura. And today the mausoleums of Saints Kazansha and Karabur are located in close proximity to each other, 25 kilometers from the city.Turkestan. The local population calls the burial place of the master "the tomb of Saint Kazanshy ata".

The majestic Taykazan continues to delight numerous pilgrims and tourists coming to the ancient city of Turkestan, a witness to the greatness of art and history, a mysterious combination of the past and the present.
