National holidays

National holidays are holidays established in Kazakhstan in honor of events of special historical significance that had a significant impact on the development of the state. During these special days, as a rule, official events are held in the central and local authorities, uniting the people in unity and pride for their country.

Nauryz holiday.

Nauryz is a holiday of Spring and the beginning of the year, celebrated on March 22, established since ancient times. On this day, day and night are equal, symbolizing the balance in nature and in the life of every person. It is a time of joy, reunion and the beginning of the new year for the Persian, Caucasian and Turkic peoples. Nauryz is also known as the "Great Day of the Nation", embodying unity and solidarity.


The "Great Day of the Ulus" has always been considered sacred for the Kazakh people. People shook hands, greeted each other and conveyed good wishes. A generous dastarkhan was being served.  Altybakan is being installed. Traditional national games are held: kokpar, audarispak, baiga, kyz kuu and other games. Nauryz holiday is a moment when people who have survived the harsh winter rejoice at the arrival of spring and new year.


May 1 is the Day of Unity of the People of Kazakhstan.

May 1 is one of the biggest holidays for the people of Kazakhstan. It is celebrated in all regions of the country. This day becomes an occasion for representatives of more than 130 nationalities living in the country to celebrate unity, harmony and well-being. Patriotic events held throughout the country emphasize the diversity of ethnic groups and their cohesion in the Kazakh home.


May 7 is Defender of the Fatherland Day. 

On May 7, 1992, a decree was signed on the creation of the National Armed Forces of the country. On October 4, 2012, the Parliament adopted a resolution on amendments and additions to the law "On Holidays of the Republic of Kazakhstan". May 7, a day that has become a public holiday since 2012, is dedicated to the heroes defending their homeland. Veterans also note their contribution to the preservation of independence and peace in the country.

August 30 is the Constitution Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan Is The Basic Law Of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The current Constitution was adopted on the basis of a national referendum on August 30, 1995 and entered into force on September 5. The Constitution consists of 9 chapters and 98 articles.


The Constitution is a document that forms the legal basis for state building. This day reminds us of the principles on which the state is built, the protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens.

This is the second constitution adopted by independent Kazakhstan. The previous Constitution was adopted on January 28, 1993.


October 25 is Republic Day.

On October 25, 1990, the Declaration of Independence of Kazakhstan was adopted. This was the first step towards the country's independence. In June 2022, at a meeting of the National Assembly, President K.K. Tokayev proposed to return the status of a national holiday. Independence Day is celebrated annually on October 25 as the main holiday of the country. Republic Day is a symbol of a historical event and an important stage in the formation of statehood. The political and legal foundations of Kazakhstan as an independent state were clearly enshrined in the Declaration of State Sovereignty. 

December 16 – Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the day when a country with a deep history once again became a sovereign state in a new era. Independence Day is celebrated every year on December 16. Festive cultural and entertainment events are celebrated in all corners of Kazakhstan. In the evening, the sky of major city centers is covered with fireworks. This day has become a symbol of pride and freedom for all residents of the country and Kazakhstanis abroad.


In 1991, the USSR collapsed, and the countries of the Union became independent states. Kazakhstan was among them. On December 16, 1991, the Supreme Council of Kazakhstan adopted the law "On Independence and State Sovereignty".


Each of these national holidays carries a deep meaning and important historical values, uniting the people of Kazakhstan in harmony and patriotic spirit.
