After the establishment of the Soviet power in Kazakhstan, a rich man Aktambai seeks to save his farm from the nationalization. He decides to drive his flocks abroad, knowing that only the young shepherd Molbagar knows the secret paths to cross. In exchange for the help, Aktambai promises Molbagar to marry the poor orphan Nurzhamal. However, Nurzhamal, not loving Molbagar, refuses to become his wife, and he decides to let her go.
Time passes, Nurzhamal graduates from a medical school, and returns home. She not only treats the fellow villagers, but actively studies the healing properties of local herbs as well. With the outbreak of World War II, Nurzhamal goes to the front, where she successfully uses the drug she developed to treat the wounds. After the war, Nurzhamal became a teacher at the medical institute, where she shared her knowledge and experience with students, continuing to make a significant contribution to the field of medicine.
