“BOTAGOZ” FILM, 1957

This film is based on the novel of the same name, by writer Sabit Mukanov.

The lead is played by Gulfairus Ismailova.

A film covers the years of 1913-1917. Since the young age, Botagoz had the difficult trials. She rejected the harassment of the parish governor, old man Itbai, and brought the persecution for her entire family. Being cursed by her relatives, the girl left the village and began working in the quarry. Hard work under the scorching rays of the sun did not break the desire of Botagoz. A girl continued to dream of happiness and justice, she hoped to meet her beloved teacher Askar, who was arrested for the revolutionary propaganda.

Then, the years have passed. A wave of revolutionary movement was spreading across Kazakhstan. Botagoz joined the ranks of those who decided to win the right to happiness with their own hands. Botagoz’s uncle, Amantai, who had previously lost faith in people and justice, under the influence of political exile Grigoriy Kuznetsov, also selected the path of fighting with the rich landowners (bai) – oppressors of the people.

The Soviet power has been established in Kazakhstan. The heroes of the film met again — now, the red commander Amantai, Commissioner Askar and his girlfriend, the courageous and brave Botagoz. And, all of them continue to fight with the representatives of the counter revolution.

A new version of the film was released in 1969.
