National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan

The National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Astana (hereinafter NABRK) was established by the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated April 23, 2004.

On September 10, 2005, the library welcomed its first readers. 

The structure of the institution includes 17 departments.

The library is one of the largest libraries in the country in terms of storage and acquisition of universal publications, servicing physical and remote users based on modern information technologies.

The library, providing the function of a public library, provides access to information for the general public, annually expanding the possibilities of remote work with the user.

The library bases its activities on the principle of free basic types of library services and increases efforts to serve members of society with disabilities and those in need of social support.

As of 01.01.2024, the library has a collection of 1,372,768 storage units, of which 561,595 are in the state language, 647,334 are in Russian, 163,839 are in other languages.

Fthe collection of rare books, documents, manuscripts, which are national cultural heritage, consists of 135 68 units of xp. According to its content, it includes books, periodicals, audio materials on all branches of knowledge.

The main sources of acquisition are:

funds of book rarities of academic institutions;

gifts; the main fund of the library; international book exchange.

The NABRK Rare Books and Manuscripts Fund consists of the following collections: manuscripts, Kazakh book, works of Russian and foreign researchers of Central Asia and Kazakhstan, books in Old Slavonic and Russian, books in foreign languages, archives of scientists and cultural figures of Kazakhstan, dictionaries and encyclopedias.

The collections include editions and handwritten works in Arabic, Persian, Uzbek, Tatar, Chinese, German, English, Russian, etc. languages. Collections of Kazakh books written in Arabic, Latin graphics, in Chagatai and common Turkic languages also belong to the rare collection of the library.
