The Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan was established by Decree of the Head of State in 1994 on the basis of the Central State Archive of Modern History.

April 12, 1994 President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev approved the Regulations on the Archive, according to which the Archive received the status of an independent legal entity with direct financing, established rights and obligations of the central state archive, designed to collect and store documents formed in the activities of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, his Office and state bodies acting under the Head of State.

At the beginning of work, there were about 600 thousand storage units here – funds of the Central, regional, city committees of the Communist Party and primary organizations of Almaty and Almaty region.
The archive is completed with documents of government agencies that are accountable to the President of the country, as well as documents of public associations, national cultural centers of republican significance, which are part of the structure of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan.

The archive is a modern, technologically equipped complex that performs the main tasks in the field of information and archival support for the activities of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, his Administration and other state bodies directly subordinate and accountable to the Head of State.

The archive is housed in a building built according to a standard design in 1974, has 8 archives and office premises. The archives are equipped with stationary and mobile metal racks with a length of about 29 thousand meters. meters, connected to automated systems of artificial microclimate and fire alarm systems.
The Archive contains unique information reflecting the epoch-making events of the formation of a sovereign state, multidimensional issues of foreign and domestic policy, international relations, the most important processes of economic transformation, socio-cultural development of the country.

The Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan (1995), the originals of the acts of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – N.A. are also kept here. Nazarbayev, the texts of his speeches at international congresses, forums and meetings.

Documents of state bodies are supplemented by documents of political and public organizations: the Nur Otan Party, the Socialist Party, the National Unity Party of Kazakhstan, the Kazakhstan Voluntary Historical and Educational Society "Adilet", the World Association of Kazakhs.

In the funds of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan, the Central Committee of the LKSM of Kazakhstan, as well as their predecessors, information about the socio-political and socio-economic life of the republic in the era of socialism is concentrated.

Documents on the formation of the Kazakh ASSR, the history of forced collectivization and political repression, the industrialization of the region, the deportation of repressed peoples, about Kazakhstan during the Great Patriotic War, about the development of virgin and fallow lands in the country are of interest.
