The National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted the grand opening of the anniversary exhibition of the outstanding Kazakh artist, Honored Worker of Kazakhstan, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters of France, recipient of the International Salvador Dalí Prize, and other prestigious international awards, Yerbolat Tolepbay, entitled "The Path to the Temple."
The exhibition is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of his birth and the 50th anniversary of his creative career. The exhibition spans various periods of Tolepbay's career. The works on display reflect the evolution of his artistic work, his cultural values, and contribute to the spiritual and aesthetic education of the younger generation.
One of Yerbolat Tolepbay's main artistic credos is the conviction: "Art gives people hope for happiness and inspires them to overcome obstacles on the path to lofty goals." True to this principle, the artist dedicated his life to art, creating a collection of works recognized and highly valued throughout the world.
Yerbolat Tolepbay's creative journey began in 1974 and has continued uninterrupted for five decades. During this time, the artist has held 38 solo exhibitions worldwide, gaining widespread recognition in the international cultural scene. In 2024, he participated in the Kazakhstan Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, and in June 2025, the opening of his solo exhibition in the Netherlands was attended by the royal family.
Beyond his creative work, Yerbolat Tolepbay actively participated in the country's cultural life. He was a member of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan and for many years headed the youth association of the Union of Artists of Kazakhstan. Today, his students are recognized masters of Kazakhstani fine art.
Under his leadership, the halls of the Akorda Palace, the building of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and other significant sites in the capital were decorated. He made a significant contribution to the creation of the "Baiterek" monument. Among his large historical paintings are the triptych "Mangilik El" ("Tandyr," "Anarkhai," "Young Steppe"), created for the opening of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as a historical triptych dedicated to the 550th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate.
Yerbolat Tolepbay's works provoke reflection on the meaning of life, the destiny of man, and his place in society. His artistic philosophy, promoting universal values, instills faith in the future and a powerful positive energy.
