From book pages to live dialogue – Qazaq Creative launched the "Meeting with the Author" project.

The Creative Industries Development Fund, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, has launched the literary project "Meeting with the Author," part of the national marathon "Kitap oqityn ult." The first event took place at the Qazaq Creative Hub with the participation of renowned writer, playwright, and Abai State Prize laureate Roza Mukanova.
The initiative is being implemented in pursuance of the Decree of the Head of State of May 16, 2026, "On measures to develop a culture of reading and shape an intellectual nation." The project aims to increase youth interest in fiction, popularize the work of domestic writers, and foster dialogue between authors and readers.
"Meeting with the Author" offers readers the opportunity to personally engage with writers, learn the stories behind their works, and discuss the themes they touch upon. This format helps readers gain a deeper understanding of the author's intent, explore the actions of literary characters from different perspectives, and share their impressions of what they have read. The first guest of the project was Roza Mukanova, whose works explore human destinies, national identity, historical memory, and moral responsibility.
During the meeting, the writer discussed her creative path, the history of her works, her work on character development, and the current state of Kazakh literature. Participants asked questions, discussed the plots of her books, and shared their own perspectives on the characters' actions.
One of the central topics of discussion was the well-known work "Mangilik Bala Beine," dedicated to the tragic consequences of nuclear tests at the Semipalatinsk test site. Through the life of the main character, the author reveals the tragedy of those affected by the tests and raises the issue of society's responsibility for their fates.
Participants paid special attention to historical memory, moral choice, and the need to preserve the truth about tragic events of the past. The conversation allowed for a new understanding of the work and a discussion of its significance for the modern generation.
One of the main goals of the project is to develop an interest in thoughtful reading and discussion of literary works among young people. Personal interactions with writers help us better understand the events behind their books, the characters' personalities, and the authors' perspectives.
The meetings will also introduce young readers to contemporary literary developments, the work of Kazakhstani authors, and current themes in national prose and drama.
The Creative Industries Development Fund plans to hold similar events on a regular basis, inviting writers, poets, and other representatives of the literary community. This will expand the project's reach and introduce readers to new names and works.
The project, implemented as part of the "Kitap oqityn ult" marathon, will foster a culture of reading and strengthen young people's interest in Kazakhstani literature.
