The international exhibition "Tangbali: Code of Ancestors" will open in Almaty

On April 2, 2026, at 3:00 PM, the international exhibition "Tanbaly: Ancestral Code," organized by the State Historical and Cultural and Natural Museum-Reserve "Tanbaly," will open at the Abylkhan Kasteev National Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty.

The exhibition will be a joint project of the "Tanbaly" Museum-Reserve and photographer Vladislav Kim. The exposition will present petroglyphs in a new interpretation, utilizing modern art and digital technologies. At the same time, the key principle of the project remains the preservation of authenticity and protection of the original.

The concept of the exhibition is based on the idea of petroglyphs as a unique ancestral code – a symbolic language reflecting ancient people's perceptions of the world, nature, mythology, and cosmos. The project offers a modern artistic interpretation of this heritage, preserving its authenticity.

The exhibition will feature photographic artworks of rock carvings, art objects created based on petroglyphs, as well as multimedia digital solutions utilizing artificial intelligence. Immersive elements will allow visitors to delve deeper into the atmosphere of the sacred space. A catalogue of the exhibition and author's souvenir products, created based on ancient images, will also be prepared for guests.

The opening is expected to be attended by UNESCO representatives in Almaty, leading foreign experts in rock art, heads of World Heritage sites, as well as domestic archaeologists, historians, ethnologists, cultural scientists, museum specialists, representatives of educational organizations, and the business community.

The final stage of the project will be an international scientific and practical conference "Petroglyphs without Showcases. New Formats for Presentation and Popularization."
