The Kalibek Kuanyshbayev Kazakh National Music and Drama Theatre opened its 36th theatrical season with the production “Karagoz,” based on the work by Mukhtar Auezov.

The work, which has become part of the golden treasury of Kazakh drama, explores through the fates of Syrym and Karagoz the contradictions between love and tradition, personal choice and social conventions.

In the new season, the theatre plans to expand its repertoire with contemporary drama productions, as well as performances in various genres alongside classical works. The creative team will also take part in national and international theatre festivals and plans to tour the regions.

The festival programme for the new season will begin in September with the drama “Sholpannyn Kunasi,” which will be presented at the national theatre festival “Ertis-Bayan” in Pavlodar. In October, the choreodrama “Anna Karenina. Roman Paraktary” will take part in the international TheatreALL festival.

At the same time, the production “Parassat Maidany” has been invited to participate in the national festival “Syn – Shyn Bolsyn,” which will take place in Karaganda in October.

It is worth recalling that in November the theatre will celebrate its 35th anniversary. A series of cultural events dedicated to the theatre’s history, creative journey and development is planned to mark the anniversary.
