Cultural events dedicated to the 95th anniversary of Uzbekali Dzhanibekov, a prominent statesman and public figure, ethnographer, and representative of Kazakhstan’s national culture, were held in Turkestan.

On the occasion of this significant date, Arman Kyrykbayev, Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, sent a congratulatory message in which he highlighted Uzbekali Dzhanibekov’s contribution to the revival of the cultural heritage and historical memory of the people, as well as to the preservation of national identity, the native language, and traditions. Particular emphasis was placed on his role in the restoration of the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, the revival of the Nauryz celebration, and the development of museums, theatres, and folklore and ethnographic groups.

As part of the programme, an exhibition opened at the Aziret Sultan National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve. The exhibition features archival documents, photographs, and historical and cultural materials from the 1970s–1990s.

A separate section of the exhibition is dedicated to Uzbekali Dzhanibekov’s work on the museification of the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, as well as his efforts to preserve and promote the national cultural heritage.

The programme continued with a discussion of Uzbekali Dzhanibekov’s legacy. Participants examined his state and public service, his contribution to the development of national culture and museum affairs, and his efforts to preserve the country’s historical and cultural heritage. Speakers included Azimbek Pazylbekuly, Akim of Turkestan; Bauyrzhan Dzhanibekov, the statesman’s son; Kulbek Yergobek, Doctor of Philology and Professor; and Khazretali Tursun, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Professor.

The anniversary programme will conclude with the theatrical performance “Arkalyktın Ak Tany” on the stage of the Turkestan Musical and Drama Theatre.
