"An exhibition dedicated to the history and culture of Kazakhstan has opened in Shanghai. "

The Shanghai History Museum opened the international exhibition "Ancestral Heritage – Continuity of Traditions," organized by the Almaty Museum Association with the support of the Almaty Akimat, the Consulate General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Shanghai, and the People's Government of Shanghai.

The project follows agreements reached following the designation of Almaty and Shanghai as sister cities at the second China-Central Asia Summit in 2025. Further impetus for cooperation was provided by Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng's official visit to Almaty in April 2026, which resulted in the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the Almaty Museum Association and the Shanghai History Museum.

The exhibition features approximately 100 exhibits from the collections of the Almaty Museum Association. It introduces visitors to the history, culture, and traditions of the Kazakh people. It includes ethnographic objects, archival documents and photographs, traditional musical instruments, and silver dirhams minted in Almaty in 1287.

A separate section of the exhibition is dedicated to national musical culture. Visitors can use QR codes to listen to the sounds of Kazakh folk musical instruments.

The exhibition aims to strengthen cultural ties between Kazakhstan and China, develop museum cooperation, and promote Kazakhstan's historical and cultural heritage internationally.

The exhibition "Ancestral Heritage – in the Continuity of Traditions" will run until August 30, 2026.
