The Kalibek Kuanyshbayev Kazakh National Music and Drama Theater premiered the play "Anna Karenina. A Romance of the Past."

The production is based on Leo Tolstoy's classic novel "Anna Karenina." The play's genre is defined as a choreodrama. The production reveals the dramatic action through movement and musical accompaniment. In its modern stage adaptation, the play explores philosophical reflections on human nature, moral choice, and the tensions between society and the individual.

The leading roles in both casts are performed by the theater's leading actors, with young actors also appearing. The stage version was written and directed by Racha Makhatayev, and the Kazakh translation was provided by Kymbat Elubayeva.
