On August 26, 2025, the Kazakh National Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Abay will present the International Premiere of Khamit Shangaliev's opera "Khan Sultan. Altyn Orda" at the Musa Jalil Tatar Academic State Opera and Ballet Theatre as part of its tour.
The tour is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan and is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Culture and the Consulate General of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The plot is based on events related to the formation of the Golden Horde. The main character, Khan Sultan, is one of the prominent figures of the Altyn Orda, the mother of the great Khan Berke, the third wife of Jochi Khan. She became a significant figure in the history of the Altyn Orda due to her intelligence, character and political wisdom, making herself and her sons key figures in the Ulus Jochi.
The legacy of the Golden Horde is a spiritual treasure that unites the Turkic peoples, therefore, scientific centers and scientists from Turkic-speaking countries have made a significant contribution to the production of the opera. Scientists in the field of the Golden Horde and Turkology participated as scientific consultants. To give historical authenticity to the project, scientists from Kazakhstan, Tatarstan and Turkey were involved.
In November and December 2024, the opera "Khan Sultan. Altyn Orda" was successfully presented at the Kazakh National Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Abay and at the Ataturk Cultural Center (Istanbul), gathering full houses and enthusiastic reviews from the audience.
The upcoming tour will be a significant cultural event that will unite our peoples through art.
