The Astana Ballet Theatre hosted an evening of contemporary choreography, combining three iconic productions: "Love Fear Loss," "Fallen Angels," and "Bolero X."
The evening opened with "Love Fear Loss," a ballet by Brazilian choreographer Ricardo Amarante. The production is inspired by the life and work of the legendary French singer Edith Piaf. Through the language of choreography, the choreographer explores the various facets of human relationships—love, fear, loss, and inner struggle.
The musical core of the production consisted of works from Edith Piaf's repertoire, performed on piano by the theatre's accompanist, Kuralai Kanapina.
The second part of the program was the one-act ballet "Fallen Angels," one of the most famous productions by the outstanding Czech choreographer Jiří Kylián. Stefan Żeromský staged the production at the Astana Ballet Theatre. Artistic Director of the Astana Ballet Theatre, Nurlan Kanetov, noted:
"Kylian's art is absolutely international and profoundly contemporary. His works are distinguished by extraordinary musicality, a monochrome aesthetic, and a high level of performance skill. The dancers of the Astana Ballet Theatre have perfectly mastered the unique 'Kylian style' – a choreographic language that significantly transcends the boundaries of conventional classical choreography and opens up new expressive possibilities for the performers."
The music of American composer Steven Reich, "Drumming Part 1," plays a special role in the performance.
The final performance of the evening was "Bolero X," in which Maurice Ravel's famous work "Bolero" received a new choreographic interpretation, accompanied by the Astana Ballet Theatre Symphony Orchestra. Principal Conductor Arman Urazgaliyev conducted the performance.
The event was held with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
