A thematic exhibition, "The Dombra in the Leading Role," has opened at the Astana Opera Theatre, dedicated to National Dombra Day.
The exhibition is located in the theatre's foyer and is open to audiences attending performances during these days, as well as to participants in theatre tours.
The exhibition introduces visitors to the role of the dombra in the creative life of the Astana Opera. Through video footage and the theatre's archival materials, audiences are introduced to productions in which the national instrument becomes part of the stage image and helps convey the characteristics of the Kazakh musical tradition.
The Astana Opera repertoire features the dombra in national operas and performances based on Kazakh musical classics, historical stories, and traditional performance culture. These include "Abai" by Akhmet Zhubanov and Latif Khamidi, "Kyz Zhibek" by Evgeniy Brusilovsky, "Birzhan - Sara" by Mukan Tulebayev, and other productions where the national instrument helps to more deeply reveal the characters' personalities, the atmosphere of the era, and the connection of the stage action with Kazakh culture.
