The Kazakh film "Mūğalım" has been selected for the New Directors competition program at the 74th San Sebastián International Film Festival, which will be held in Spain from September 18 to 26. The festival is accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) in the competition film festival category.
New Directors presents first and second feature films by promising directors from around the world. All films in this section are competing for the Kutxabank-New Directors Award.
The film was commissioned by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the support of the State Center for National Cinema Support.
The film tells the story of a music teacher from Balkhash who dreams of moving to a big city. Given the opportunity, the hero faces a choice between his personal aspirations and his calling.
"Mūğalım" marks Ayana Nurdinova's feature-length directorial debut. The film's producer is Aruzhan Dosymkozha, and the director of photography is Aigul Nurbulatova.
The cast includes Olzhas Dalelkhan, Rustem Zhanyamanov, Shynar Zhanisbekova, Gulnara Dusmatova, Olga Landina, Bakytzhan Alpeis, Madina Esman, Anna Starchenko, and Akif Petrov.
