The Days of Azerbaijani Culture concluded in Astana with a vibrant gala concert

Among them are Samir Jafarov, Alikhan Samedov, Tunzala Agayeva, Azer Zeynalov, Guliaz Mammadova and other stars. The concert program included bright dance numbers, arias from Azerbaijani operas and operettas, popular pop songs, as well as works by folk composers.

The concert introduced the audience to the variety of national instruments. People's Artist of Azerbaijan Alikhan Samedov became famous all over the world for his virtuoso playing of the Azerbaijani wind instrument balaban. The composition “Sen Gelmez Oldun” (“You Didn’t Come”) is widely known in his performance. It is in Alikhan Samedov's interpretation that it is popular among social network users in different countries. The song was written by Azerbaijani composer Alekper Tagiyev to the words of poet Medina Gyulgyun. The author created this music in memory of his sister-in-law. Tagiyev wrote the melody as soon as he returned from the funeral.

“Unfortunately, the composer has already passed away. But his music lives and will continue to live. If instrumental music is good, it can be listened to for hundreds of years. Thanks to this composition, I became known in different countries of the world. I first played it 25 years ago. Wherever I go, everyone wants to hear it. When music is without words, it is not always easy to accept. Especially if it is performed on a folk instrument. The musician must play it in such a way as to convey all the emotions,” said People's Artist of Azerbaijan Alikhan Samedov.

Balaban is a wind musical instrument with a double reed. It is made from hardwood: mulberry or apricot wood. According to Azerbaijani musicologist Kubad Kasimov, a wind instrument made of bone dating back to the 1st century BC was discovered on the territory of Mingechaur. It is considered the prototype of the modern balaban.

“Balaban is the language of my soul. I have played in many countries of the world. And people of different nationalities all listen with pleasure and accept this instrument well. Listeners always tell me that the sound of the balaban touches them to the depths of their souls and they indulge in memories”, said People's Artist of Azerbaijan Alikhan Samedov.

Artists from Azerbaijan have prepared many surprises for Kazakh listeners. They performed famous Kazakh works, including Latif Hamidi's "Kazakh Waltz" and the folk song "Beu Aydai". The program also included a number that reflected the kinship of two musical instruments - the saz and the dombra.

“I play the saz. This is our national Azerbaijani instrument. You could say the brother of the dombra. We brought a number about two instruments - about the saz and the dombra. According to the idea, first we sing a song in Azerbaijani about the saz, then in Kazakh about the dombra. This is Arslanbek Sultanbekov's song "Dombra". Saz and dombra are very similar to each other, both stringed instruments. I am playing a Kazakh work and singing in Kazakh for the first time. Very interesting. I think our peoples are united by a love for traditional heritage, for national music,” said saz performer Samira Aliyeva.

The famous song from the repertoire of Muslim Magomayev "Azerbaijan" became a bright final chord in the solemn program. It was performed by all participants of the evening. The gala concert concluded the Days of Azerbaijani Culture in Astana. They demonstrated the incredible diversity of the culture of the Azerbaijani people and the great interest of the Kazakh audience in it.
