Scientific restoration work continues on the dome of the Khoja Akhmed Yasawi Mausoleum in Turkestan. Specialists from the Kazrestavratsiya State Enterprise are conducting restoration work based on the results of a comprehensive survey, which revealed a weakening of the glazed coating and an increase in the number of cracked areas.
The work is aimed at preventing further deterioration and the possible collapse of individual fragments of the outer glazed layer. However, the coating is not part of the monument's original structure—the historic dome has been fully preserved to this day. The outer layer protects it from precipitation, wind, solar radiation, and other external influences.
Further decisions will be made based on the research results and the principle of minimal intervention, which ensures respect for the historic structure.
The Khoja Akhmed Yasawi Mausoleum became the first monument in Kazakhstan to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Scientific restoration work is being carried out in accordance with international standards for the preservation of cultural heritage and under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
