Bekezhan's sword, Roza Rymbayeva's costumes, and the treasures of science: an unusual exhibition in Astana

The sword that Asanali Ashimov carried on the set of the legendary film "Kyz-Zhibek," stage costumes of Kazakh pop stars, and rare archival documents from scientists—all of which are displayed at the National Museum of Kazakhstan—have collected items, each with a unique story behind them.
The exhibition "Personalities on the Pedestal of Independence: Figures of Science and Culture" introduces visitors to the legacy of outstanding Kazakhstanis whose discoveries, creativity, and achievements have become part of the country's history.
The world of art occupies a special place in the exhibition. Here, you can see the stage costumes of Roza Rymbaeva, Bulat Ayukhanov, Aiman Musakhodzhaeva, and Nurzhamal Usenbayeva. Among the most interesting exhibits are the Bekezhan sword, which Asanali Ashimov used during the filming of "Kyz-Zhibek," and a movie camera from the set of "The End of the Ataman."
The section dedicated to science is equally fascinating. Visitors are presented with the personal belongings, documents, and awards of archaeologist Kemal Akishev, ethnographer Akseleu Seidimbek, scientist Kenzhegali Sagadiev, and other renowned researchers. Among the rare materials is a route map of the 1955 archaeological expedition.
The museum continues to expand its collection, collecting items from cultural and scientific figures themselves, as well as their relatives and descendants.
The exhibition offers an unexpected perspective on famous people—through the objects that accompanied them in their creative work, scientific research, and everyday life. It is these details that make history more relatable and understandable.
The exhibition is open to visitors until November 15, 2026.
