A retrospective exhibition, "N. Imamov: 100 Years. 100 Moments," has opened at the Presidential Center of the Presidential Property Management Department of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth of photojournalist, local historian, and chronicler of the capital, Nurmukhamat Imamov.
The exhibition features 100 archival photographs reflecting the history, architecture, and everyday life of Tselinograd, Akmola, and modern Astana. The works allow us to trace the changes in urban space and public life over several decades.
The exhibition consists of four thematic sections dedicated to the photographer, the history of the old city, famous residents of the capital, and modern Astana. The final section explores children and youth as a symbol of the continuity of generations and the future of the country.
Nurmukhamat Imamov fought in the Great Patriotic War. In the postwar years, he worked as a theater artist and radio mechanic, and later devoted himself to photojournalism. For over 40 years, he collaborated with the Akmola Pravda newspaper and other publications, creating an archive of thousands of photographs of the capital.
His son, Rinat Imamov, continues the work of preserving and digitizing the photojournalist's legacy. The project was implemented by the Presidential Center with the support of the Center for Urban Tourism Development, the Astana Guides Club, and the Kazakhstan Railway Museum.
The exhibition will run until August 24.
