The evening will take place on November 14. Many works of the extensive and bright program will be heard by Kazakhstani viewers for the first time performed by a wind orchestra.
The conductor and soloist of the evening will be the invited conductor Kirill Ilyin (Russia) – artistic director and chief conductor of the Ulyanovsk State Wind Orchestra "Derzhava", soloist clarinetist, laureate of all-Russian and international competitions for performers. A graduate of the Tambov State Musical Pedagogical Institute named after S.V. Rakhmaninov and the Kazan State Conservatory named after N.G. Zhiganova, Kirill Ilyin, as a conductor and clarinetist, trained with famous masters of Russia and abroad. As artistic director and chief conductor of the Derzhava Orchestra, he significantly expanded the repertoire of the ensemble and brought it to a new level of performing skills. Kirill Ilyin's interests focus on contemporary music for wind orchestra. The musician maintains close creative contacts with contemporary composers, conductors and performers, and regularly presents exclusive programs in Ulyanovsk.
The concert program is dedicated to all connoisseurs of Far Eastern culture and fans of anime. The first block consists of academic works for wind orchestra, original music by composers Alfred Reed - Symphony No. 5 "Sakura" (1994), and Satoshi Yagisawa - "Hymn to the Sun", who are among the most outstanding composers of wind music of our time.
“I have always been interested in discovering something new in programs, some new music. I have never conducted this program, never encountered it. There have always been a huge number of good composers and arrangers in China and Japan. I contacted the librarian of the Tokyo Wind Orchestra in my time, it is one of the most famous wind orchestras in the world, and I really like everything they do, it is always high-quality arrangements, a stream of very good, well-made notes, which we lack. When you come across Japanese and Chinese music, you begin to analyze how composers in this region work, compare, try to repeat something, this music is interesting to me in many ways,” - said the artistic director and chief conductor of the Ulyanovsk State Wind Orchestra “Derzhava”. Kirill Ilyin.
The second block consists of music created by various authors for animated and feature films originating from the Far East. Their arrangement for wind orchestra will create an unforgettable atmosphere and immerse listeners in the fantastic world of artistic images.
The audience will also hear the soulful melody from the anime "The Sea of Wisdom" by D. Shimizu. The masterpieces of Japanese cinema are the creations of animator Hayao Miyazaki and his animation Studio Ghibli. The wind orchestra will present arrangements of works by soundtrack author Joe Hisaishi. The film composer has written many works not only for Studio Ghibli. His discography includes more than 100 soundtracks to films, as well as about 40 solo albums. The composer has won the Japanese Academy Award for Best Music seven times. At the concert "Sounds of the Far East", the public will hear works from the films "Ponyo Fish on the Cliff", "Laputa Castle in the Sky", "Kiki's Delivery Service", "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Winds" and "Howl's Moving Castle". In the composition "Street Fights" by S. Wang, the invited musician Kirill Ilyin will again perform as a soloist of the wind orchestra.
“Regarding anime – I have never watched anime and have never been interested in this topic. And if it weren’t for our program, I would never have encountered this topic at all. But since I like to discover something new, I decided to get to know it more deeply and realized that these are very serious composers and very good music. It is very picturesque, somewhere theatrical, there are modern techniques for depicting wind, somewhere scary music, music where the mood changes very often. For me, in terms of character, this is very close – I am such a person, somewhere explosive, somewhere very calm, somewhere romantic. I like everything that the composers have composed on this topic. Despite the fact that I am a conductor, I try to perform on the clarinet from time to time, it is part of my life. Without the clarinet in this program, I could not imagine doing without it. I am performing in Astana for the first time and I want to show all aspects of my talents and hobbies,” - noted the artistic director and chief conductor of the Ulyanovsk State Wind Orchestra “Derzhava”. Kirill Ilyin.
For lovers of the historical action genre, music from the film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" (2000) will be played. For this work, the Chinese-American composer Tan Dun received an Oscar. The solo part on the clarinet will be performed by Kirill Ilyin. The concert will end with Kazakh music – the immortal melody of the kyui Kurmangazy “Balbyrauyn”, which is not inferior in drama and emotional intensity.
