On August 26, 2025, the Kazakh National Opera and Ballet Theater named after Abay was a resounding success on the stage of the Musa Jalil Tatar Academic State Opera and Ballet Theater. The artists presented the premiere of Khamit Shangaliev's opera "Khan Sultan. Golden Horde".
The tour was timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan and was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan (RF), the Consulate General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Kazan.
Before the start of the performance, the director of the theater, Ainur Kopbasarova, read out a welcome letter on behalf of the Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Aida Balayeva, in which it was noted that the dynamic development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Tatarstan occupies an important place in the multifaceted relations between the two countries and that creative ties between the teams are a clear example of this. The Minister expressed confidence that this premiere will become a source of inspiration and pride in the shared great past and will bring joy to the communication with art.
The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan (RF) Leila Fazleeva and the Consul General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Kazan Yerlan Iskak also delivered welcome speeches.
It should be noted that the process of creating the historical drama was accompanied by consultations with well-known international scientists, specialists in the field of history, which ensured historical accuracy and deep elaboration of details. The opera was staged by the eminent Italian director Davide Livermore.
The opera brought together over 200 artists, who, with the help of live performance and vivid stage effects, created a unique atmosphere, allowing viewers not only to observe the events, but also to feel part of the historical process.
A photo exhibition was held in the theater lobby, which introduced visitors to Kazakhstan, the role and status of the state on the world stage, culture, the picturesque nature of the country and modern architecture.
The premiere was attended by the heads of foreign general and honorary consulates accredited in Kazan, state and public figures, as well as representatives of business circles, the media and members of the Kazakh diaspora.
The performance ended with thunderous applause and enthusiastic reviews from music lovers, causing widespread interest and resonance.
