
The Astana Ballet Theatre concluded its annual tour in Almaty. The capital's company presented productions at the Almaty Theatre that generated great interest among audiences. All performances were sold out, confirming the public's enduring interest in contemporary Kazakhstani ballet.
The tour program opened with the two-act ballet "Two Carpets." The production is based on the ancient Azerbaijani legend of the Shirvan carpet and explores themes of love, memory, separation, and human destiny. Thanks to its expressive choreography, the performance received a warm response from the Almaty audience. The libretto and inspiration for the project was written by Valery Kopeikin, and the director and choreographer was Alexander Mogilev.
The audience also enjoyed the ballet-cantata "Carmina Burana," which was awarded the title of "Best Production of 2025." The production brought together ballet, choir, orchestra, and opera soloists, creating a grand theatrical experience. The work, which explores themes of love, temptation, spiritual choice, and the struggle of opposites, was met with a standing ovation.
The choreographers for the production were Mukaram Abubakhrieva, Honored Worker of Kazakhstan and Principal Ballet Master of the theater, and Timur Zagidullin. The musical accompaniment was provided by the orchestra, choir, and soloists under the direction of Principal Conductor Arman Urazgaliyev. The production featured opera soloists Adil Sultan, Talgat Allabirinov, and Firuza Rakhmetova, as well as the choir of the Kazakh National Opera and Ballet Theater named after Abai, under the direction of Principal Choirmaster, Honored Worker of Kazakhstan, Aliya Temirbekova.
