The Kalibek Kuanyshbayev Kazakh National Music and Drama Theater presented the premiere of a play based on Magzhan Zhumabayev's work "Sholpannyn kunәsі."
The production was created with a careful attention to the literary source: Magzhan Zhumabayev's text was preserved in its entirety, while the play received an independent staging and a new directorial interpretation.
The production centers on the story of Sholpan, Sarsenbay, and Azimbay. The chamber form of the play allows for a focus on the characters' inner worlds, their experiences, hidden feelings, and complex relationships. The director's interpretation reveals not only the character of Sholpan but also the inner drama of Sarsenbay.
The play explores themes of understatement, human secrets, personal pain, moral choice, and the value of life. The production does not offer definitive assessments, leaving room for the audience to reflect on their own. The production director was Honored Worker of Kazakhstan Gulsina Mirgaliyeva. The production and costume designer was Shynar Yelembayeva, winner of the "Eren eңbegі үшін" medal. The dance director was Asan Boronchiev, and the choreographer was Karina Zhirenbayeva.
