The exhibition "Echo of Centuries: Felt and Canvas" has opened in Almaty, bringing together works by artists Zhazira Zhumasheva and Asel Abilkhay.
The exhibition is on display in the Central Exhibition Hall of the Abylkhan Kasteyev National Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It includes works created using felt, thread, and fabric, as well as paintings.
The artists explore traditional materials and images of Kazakh culture, reinterpreting them through a contemporary artistic language. Felt is featured in the exhibition not only as an element of decorative and applied art but also as an independent means of expression. Canvas, color, line, and texture create a vibrant visual dialogue with it.
The exhibition centers on themes of cultural memory, nature, steppe space, traditional life, and the artist's personal expression. Rather than literally reproducing national motifs, the artists offer a new interpretation of this heritage through the composition, rhythm, color, and form of the material. One of Zhazira Zhumasheva's works, "Kerege," references the structure of a Kazakh yurt. It combines felt elements, the "koshqar muyіz" pattern, and the image of the natural space opening up behind the kerege.
The exhibition "Echo of Ages: Felt and Canvas" demonstrates how traditional craft materials can resonate in contemporary art and become a language of personal artistic freedom. The exhibition will run until October 16, 2026.
