The dystopian ballet ""Arayly Kala"" premiered in Almaty

The Kazakh National Opera and Ballet Theater named after Abay hosted the premiere of the dystopian ballet "Arayly Kala" by the State Academic Dance Theater of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The production closed the company's 59th theatrical season. This one-act performance in the genre of a technogenic dystopia was staged by choreographer Laura Makan. The music was composed by Oleg Zhevlakov, and the libretto was written by Almira Ismailova.

The play is based on the story of a future city whose inhabitants voluntarily forgo sunlight in favor of artificial comfort and digital entertainment. Through this plot, the authors address the impact of technology on people, their choices, and their connection to real life.

The production utilizes images of the modern urban and digital environment. They help explore the theme of human dependence on convenience, virtual reality, and the illusion of constant comfort.

The musical composition combines classical sounds with modern electronic elements. The stage space is enhanced by multimedia projections, futuristic costumes, and the dancers' expressive movements.

Laura Makan is a representative of the Kazakh ballet school and a student of the distinguished choreographer Bulat Ayukhanov. This new production marks her return to the State Academic Dance Theater of the Republic of Kazakhstan as a choreographer.
