In anticipation of the New Year, the Astana Ballet Theatre is presenting a series of winter fairytale productions.
The Nutcracker, a traditional symbol of the New Year holidays, occupies a central place in the repertoire. For eight years now, The Nutcracker has been selling out the theatre's stage. Each year, audiences are treated to 10 to 15 performances. The production features dancers from the Astana Ballet and students from the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography. For younger audiences, the theatre has prepared an abridged children's version of the ballet on December 19, 20, 21, and 23.
The program continues with The Snow Queen, which will be performed on January 7, 9, and 10. This production, based on Hans Christian Andersen's famous fairy tale, tells a story about the power of friendship, kindness, and selflessness. The winter program will conclude with the ballet "Cinderella," which will be performed on January 23 and 24. The production explores themes of self-confidence and strength of character.
All performances will be accompanied by the Astana Ballet Theatre Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Principal Conductor Arman Urazgaliev and Conductor Elmar Buribaev.
