In Almaty, as part of the international "Earth Hour" initiative, the National Social Eco-campaign TURAQTY JOL 7.0 was launched. The central event of the evening at Almaty Theatre was an acoustic concert "Symphony of Earth" performed by the youth chamber orchestra Giovani Talenti of the Republican Kazakh Specialized Music Boarding School for Gifted Children named after Akhmet Zhubanov.
The concert combined academic music and an environmental agenda. In support of "Earth Hour", the lighting in the theater building was turned off, and the program was performed unplugged – without the use of electricity. This format became a symbolic reminder of the importance of conscious resource consumption and careful attitude towards the environment.
The young musicians of the Akhmet Zhubanov school performed works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Arvo Pärt, Astor Piazzolla, Jules Massenet, as well as Kazakh composers. A special feature of the program was the combination of European and Kazakh musical traditions.
The TURAQTY JOL project is aimed at fostering an ecological culture in the younger generation. The campaign is implemented by the Kazakhstan National Federation of UNESCO Clubs with the support of UNESCO partners in Kazakhstan.
As part of the campaign launch, applications are now open for the Youth Eco Camp TURAQTY JOL 7.0 for teenagers aged 14 to 18. Applications are accepted until May 28, and the final stage will take place from July 26 to August 1 in Almaty. The prize fund is 5 million tenge.
