Filming of the feature adventure film "Botai. Ghaiyp Galam" has begun in the North Kazakhstan Region. The project is being implemented at the request of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the support of the State Center for the Support of National Cinema and the Akimat of the North Kazakhstan Region.
The film aims to popularize the region's historical and cultural heritage and is dedicated to the ancient Botai culture, which holds special significance in world history. Filming is taking place in the settlement of Botai and the adjacent historical and archaeological zone.
Representatives of the regional Akimat, the State Center for the Support of National Cinema, the Center for Creative Industry, and the film crew participated in the filming launch ceremony.
The project is the first feature film in the country dedicated to the ancient Botai culture. Its implementation is in line with the goals of studying national history and developing art and culture. The film's significance is further enhanced by the fact that it was in the North Kazakhstan Region, approximately six thousand years ago, that one of the most important events in world history—the domestication of the horse—took place.
The film aims to heighten interest in the rich historical heritage of Northern Kazakhstan and draw a wider audience's attention to the region's unique archaeological and cultural potential.
The project also features actors selected through the national JARQYRA casting call, held by the Cinema Center in 2025. The casting call was held simultaneously in 19 cities across the country and brought together over a thousand young talents. The best performers were included in the Cinema Center's official actor database and were given the opportunity to participate in new domestic film projects.
