Shakhimardan Abilov will present his mono-opera to the capital's public

The author and performer of the current work is the People's Artist of Kazakhstan, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan Shakimardan Abilov, who dedicated his entire professional career to popularizing the work of Abai, conveying the wisdom of the poet through music.

The mono-opera "Tolyk Adam. Oi tolgau. Hakim Abai" is the result of decades of searching and labor. The idea of creating a mono-opera arose during his trip to London. In 1995, as part of the worldwide celebration of the year of Abai, announced by UNESCO, Shakimardan Abilov took part in the opening of the Abai House in London. At this solemn event, People's Artists of Kazakhstan Bibigul Tulegenova, Ermek Serkebaev and the famous violinist Marat Bisengaliev performed together with the orchestra of Prince Charles in the famous Barbican Center. Then, after performing Abai's aria, opera singer Shakimardan Abilov first thought about creating a large-scale work about him.

The mono-opera was initially presented as an experiment with 3-4 songs by Abai, then romances to Abai's poems, written specifically for his voice by Kazakh composers E. Rakhmadiev, M. Sagatov, M. Mangitaev and T. Mukhamedzhanov, were added.

«The dream became a reality after many years of continuous searching. My sincere love and respect for Abai were embodied in the mono-opera. I put a lot of effort into its creation. As a result, I chose 10 rarely performed works by the poet, on the basis of which the mono-opera was created. We must hear Abai and immerse ourselves in his world, therefore the mono-opera lasts more than an hour without intermission and applause from the audience. Abai left behind not only immortal words, but also immortal music. He criticized his people so that the Kazakhs could reach the world level. Through Abai alone, we can show the world who the Kazakhs are, therefore I believe that understanding Abai is the duty of each of us, - noted Sh. Abilov, adding that next year he plans to create a large performance with an orchestra in honor of the 180th anniversary of the great thinker.

It is worth emphasizing that a mono-opera is a rare genre, and the upcoming dedication concert will be an interesting event for the Astana Opera audience. The mono-opera consists of three blocks. The first block includes the works "Karangy Tunde Tau Kalgyp", "Karashada Omіr Tur", "Korboldy Zhanym" and "Segіz Ayak". The second block includes such works by the great poet as "Ata-anaga Koz Kuanysh", "Boyy Bulgag", "Bіreuden Bіreu Artylsa", "Kozіmnіng Karasy", dedicated to the upbringing of children, knowledge, science, art and love. In the final third block, the songs "Zhelsіz Tunde Zharyk Ai" and "Aittym Sәlem Kalamkas" will be played.

«Kazakhstan is our common home, a place where dreams come true. We have been given priceless land so that we can enjoy its beauty, learn to love and respect nature, enrich ourselves with culture and become part of great deeds. This gift obliges us to preserve peace and harmony, as bequeathed by the great Abai, who considered all people brothers. I want our Kazakhstan to become the center of world culture, I want all people on our planet to live in peace and love, discovering each other's wealth of traditions and creating new cultural masterpieces, - concluded People's Artist of Kazakhstan Shakimardan Abilov.

Stage video design will convey the deep meaning of each of the three parts of the mono-opera. This kind of artistic bridge will connect the historical era of Abai with the eternal themes of love and the search for truth. The piano part on this evening will be performed by the laureate of international competitions, the permanent concertmaster of Shakimardan Abilov - Aliyar Otetileu.
