The Abay Library project became the winner of the US Ambassadors Fund program

A project to preserve, restore, and digitalize the rare collection of the Abai Regional Universal Library has won a U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) award.
The initiative aims to preserve rare manuscripts and ancient publications, including materials related to the life and creative legacy of Abai Qunanbayuly, as well as books used by the poet.
The library's history lends particular significance to the project. In 1885, American explorer, writer, and journalist George Kennan visited the library during his stay in Semipalatinsk. He became familiar with the book collection used by Abai and later mentioned the Kazakh thinker in his works, introducing him to an English-speaking audience.
The project includes the conservation and restoration of rare manuscripts and publications, as well as their digitalization. Modern technologies will ensure the long-term preservation of valuable materials and expand the possibilities for their use in scientific, educational, and outreach work.
