Aiel Tizginde: A Dialogue Between Painting and Photography

Painting and photography have come together in the unique art project Aiel Tizginde ("Woman at the Helm"). The exhibition includes works by Kazakh artists depicting women in various roles. The exhibition was complemented by remake photographs, which reflected the ideas of the original paintings. The author of the photographs was the talented master Ospan Ali.

"We shot everything in just three days thanks to the team of stylists, makeup artists. In a short period, it was necessary to select the image of each participant, to feel the paintings. It was not easy. We chose 20 paintings by Kazakh artists and presented their ideas through photography. I think we, photographers, periodically do remakes, creating mood boards. We adapt already known images to our vision and taste. We tried to put useful meanings into the project as well. For example, through tulips we decided to convey the idea that they should not be picked and that we need to think about ecology," - said Ospan Ali.

The participants of the photo project were beautiful and successful women of Kazakhstan. Among them are journalist Sandi Sultan, businesswoman Dinara Shukizhanova, choreographer Anel Marabaeva, Bibigul Tulegenova's granddaughter, Deputy Director of the Astana Opera Theater Malika Tulegenova and other representatives of the fair sex. They became the embodiment of the project's concept and conveyed the energy of movement, freedom and strength in their works.

"Ospan Ali and I have been friends for a long time, we often experiment with images. And this time it's such a good theme: paintings come to life in the present time. The project is dedicated to women who always rock the cradle with one hand, and with the other - rotate the whole world. We tried to convey a gentle image. Here we used felt, a national headdress and jewelry. Ali had a headache before the shooting, but when we started shooting, the pain immediately disappeared. As he said, after all, female energy heals," - said Anel Marabaeva.

The Aiel Tizginde exhibition is being held for the second year by the Kazakhstani automobile company Allur. The cultural initiative emphasized the importance of movement in both literal and metaphorical senses.

"Last year, the project was dedicated to women driving some kind of transport: an armored personnel carrier, an airplane, etc. This time we decided to bring something new and experiment. Women who are at the helm of their lives participated. If you read the stories under the paintings, you can understand why this or that girl was chosen. Aiel Tizginde is not just an exhibition, but a platform for dialogue where traditions meet modernity," -  said Rysty Asenova, head of the Allur brand development department.

Ospan Ali presented visual interpretations of paintings by Nurlan Kilibayev, Aigerim Karibaeva, Abay Chunchalinov and other Kazakhstani artists. The combination of traditional painting and modern forms of expression revealed new facets of the female image in art.
