The international accordion and button accordion competition "Coupe Mondiale 79" has started in Astana.

The opening ceremony of the international bayan and accordion competition "Coupe Mondiale 79" was held at the Roza Baglanova State Academic Concert Organization "Kazakhconcert." One of the most prestigious competitions in the world of bayan and accordion art is being held in Kazakhstan and Central Asia for the first time.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aida Balayeva sent a greeting to the competition participants and guests. In her address, she emphasized the importance of state support for culture and the expansion of international creative cooperation.
"The head of state consistently emphasizes the special role of culture as an important value that strengthens the spiritual strength of the country and reflects its national identity. The fact that Kazakhstan is hosting one of the most prestigious music competitions—the "Coupe Mondiale"—is a clear demonstration of our systematic efforts in this area. This is a significant event not only for Kazakhstan, but for the cultural life of all of Central Asia. The arrival of the leadership and authoritative representatives of the International Confederation of Accordionists also demonstrates the high level of confidence in Kazakhstan's cultural potential. This opens up new opportunities for young Kazakhstani musicians, allowing them to hone their professional skills, gain international experience, and reach the global stage," the greeting reads.
This year, 147 applications were received for the competition, including 126 from solo performers and 21 from ensembles. Participants from Kazakhstan, Russia, China, Italy, Portugal, Montenegro, Serbia, Croatia, Switzerland, Japan, Uzbekistan, Brazil, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kyrgyzstan, North Macedonia, and Belarus will compete in seven categories.
Forty-eight delegates of the International Confederation of Accordionists also arrived in Astana to participate in the events. Among them are the organization's president, Mirko Patarini; secretary general, Kimmo Mattila; representatives of the Music Committee; members of the international jury; and renowned performers. The 156th Congress of Delegates of the International Confederation of Accordionists is taking place in parallel with the competition program. Participants will discuss the development of the bayan and accordion arts, professional music education, and the further strengthening of cooperation between national performing schools.
